About

Tha Block was created with the vision of creating a meaningful connection between Trenton and the arts.  Responding to the lack of artistic spaces run by Trentonians, Tha Block is creating space for Trenton community members to become immersed in art.

Tha Block is devoted to social justice in the community, Trentonians will be provided a space to be themselves, heal, learn and educate one another. The goal is to encourage the Black and Brown folx of Trenton to artistically articulate the complex, beautiful nature of their experiences.

There aren’t many programs in the city that give hands-on training to nonprofessional residents in the area. Tha Block is seeking to bridge the gap between art and community. Tha Block hired artists from the Trenton area to provide instruction to Trenton youth on topics such as Graffiti, Journalism, Creative Writing, Yoga, and Visual Art. "Teach the Block" has connected Trenton residents to the performing arts and encouraged them to create and immerse themselves.

Tha Block was created with the goal of providing a safe, brave place for creative exchange in Trenton.  Tha Block is lead by a collective of Trenton artists who are passionate about the revitalization of the city,  Tha Block intends to continue educating and entertaining through work that reflects its commitment to social justice in the community, self sufficiency, equality before the law, social and cultural rights, the right to food, the right to work, the right to health and the right to education.

In The Know: Who am I Becoming- A Program for 9th to 12th Graders

"In Tha Know: Who Am I Becoming?" Is an all year around creative program that would allow teens to engage topics of identity, mindfulness, therapeutic methodology, and self-exploration through art. The hope is that students will begin to think critically about self exploration, communication styles and thought patterns. "How do I view my self? What are my love languages? How do I process experiences and how does that reflect in how I show up in spaces? How can I use art to convey messages that are escaped by words?
