Kia Kotahi Ako

Spark students' solutions to a better future

About

Indigenous knowledge transforming education and environmental solutions from Aotearoa.

Mō Mātou | About us

Established in 2021, Kia Kotahi Ako (Learning As One) is an alliance of Edmund Hillary Fellows, activating education initiatives that will have the biggest impact for Papatūānuku (mother earth).

WHY? We have a climate crisis and an inequitable education system. We’re working to tackle both of these issues - together. We’d love your help.

We believe in:
  1. the intrinsic knowledge system of Te Ao Māori as a base for solutions
  2. student-designed solutions to tackle environmental challenges
  3. equitable educational outcomes
We have a Climate Emergency and empowering learners to be change-makers needs to be central to education.

To create this future our strategic goals are:
  1. accelerating education solutions for the environment
  2. championing Te Ao Māori initiatives
  3. weaving opportunities for policy system change
MAHERE PŪTEA: WHAT IS OUR BUDGET BREAKDOWN?

Below is a breakdown of our 3-year funding ask of $400,000/yr* to achieve our strategic goals. Please get in touch if you are interested in supporting a specific project and more budget details can be shared.

In year 1 we raised NZ$254k and we are looking for others who want to join us to achieve our vision of  Indigenous knowledge transforming education and environmental solutions from Aotearoa.

Remember that for Edmund Hillary Fellows, philanthropic funding counts towards PRV points. A donation of $15k counts for 0.5 PRV points, $75k counts for 1 point and $200k counts for 2 points (out of 5 needed).**

Please reach out to: sarah@kiakotahi.org if you would like to discuss further details behind this budget and our vision or to get involved with our mahi.

*Note this budget is indicative and will be adjusted to have the biggest impact. All donations made are unrestricted funding.

**This is a guide, please refer to the latest documentation from EHF.
