Agora

Agora proposes a form of democracy involving drawing lots, also known as sortition. More precisely, our goal is to set up a Citizens’ Assembly with legislative power and to advocate for it to become an officially and legally recognised institution.

This Assembly will be made up of a sample of citizens selected randomly from the population of Brussels and will be statistically representative in terms of gender, age and education level. ​ The Assembly will create a deliberative space that promotes and facilitates the exchange of diverse perspectives and opinions, allowing for them to evolve.
​ This system therefore aims to be participative, since it gives each citizen from Brussels a real possibility of actively participating in the decision-making process.

Agora propose une forme de démocratie par tirage au sort. Plus particulièrement, son objectif est de mettre en place et de promouvoir l’institutionnalisation d’une Assemblée citoyenne dotée d’un pouvoir législatif. Cette Assemblée est constituée d’un échantillon de Bruxellois·es tirés au sort. ​ Cet échantillon est statistiquement représentatif de la population tirée au sort en termes d’âge, de sexe et de niveau d’études. ​ Cette Assemblée se veut délibérative car basée sur une diversité d'opinions dont le partage est facilité, ce qui permet leur évolution. ​ Enfin, le système prôné se veut participatif dans le sens où chaque Bruxellois·e a une réelle chance de participer activement au processus décisionnel.

Agora ijvert voor een vorm van democratie via loting. Met name de oprichting en de promotie van een Brusselse Burgerassemblee met wetgevende macht. Het doel is om de institutionalisering van deze Assemblee te promoten.

De Assemblee wordt geloot onder de Brusselse bevolking en is statistisch representatief op het vlak van leeftijd, gender en scholingsgraad.

De werking van de Assemblee is overleggend, te weten dat elke mening er een plaats krijgt, onderling uitgewisseld wordt en daarom niet bij voorbaat vastligt.

Het systeem is tevens participatief in de zin dat elke Brusselaar een reële kans maakt om actief deel te nemen aan het beslissingsproces.
